I believe Volvo states every 70k. Personally I do 60k as added insurance.

This depends on the model and year of the Volvo your driving because they improved the design of these things over the years.

For instance:

93' 850= 50k
94' and up 850= 70k ( I believe this is also true for 98' S/V 70, but not sure )
99' and up S/V 70= 105k
97' Volvo 850 GLT
79' Ford Capri "S", 2.8 V6, T9 HD 5-speed
68' Lincoln Continental Coupe, 460 cui
58' Porsche Diesel Junior

Almost forgot. Replace the timing belt tensioner as well, very important.

It's 110k km or so...so you could be right on a 98.

my last one was 330....crap I'll be due again before I know it....headdesk

Also, iirc, not all volvos run the 'interference' type engine. I know the 850/*70s are iirc...not sure what else. The difference between the interference engines and the non, with the interference engine, if your timing belt goes - you're lookin at an engine rebuild it does a LOT of damage. Non interference - not so much.

Least that's what I've heard.

So if you're running an interference and are not sure when your timing belt was last done - just get'er done then you know.

And stick with the OEM. Love of god on that stick with OEM. DO NOT CHEAP OUT ON TIMING BELTS!

The P2 cars are supposed to be changed at 105K but I have heard them snapping at 80K so I still stick to the 70K interval.

Yeah, I agree with you and it is not that hard of a job to do on your own.
