Yesterday, I had the C70 in the dealer for a service, and while waiting, went to the new car showroom. On the floor sat a 2011 black metallic C70. I walked around it "comparing", and decided to open the trunk. To my surprise, inside sat a spare tire, in a nice Volvo bag, that attached the tire to the floor (the jack and lug wrench was in a compartment just in front of the tire). Since MY car came with the air compressor, and NOT a spare tire, the trunk configeration was just a bit different. In order to put the spare (it's a donut tire) in my C70, the cover over the tool compartment would have to come out for the tire to fit, and the jack and lug wrench fits in the bag, on the back side of the tire (the tire is put in the bag face down). Today I went back to the dealer and bought everything I needed. The price of the tire/rim/bag/jack & lug wrench was a little over $450. A bit pricey, BUT the price of "confidence" regained in the car was worth every pennny of it! (By the way, I noticed the new spare tire is also a Pirelli !
) Another thing I noticed on the sticker of the new C70--there was no extra charge for the spare tire!As you may know, the C70 does not have much trunk room when the top is down, and having a spare tire even cuts that space down some more, but I think the trade off is worth it. I have the Volvo C70 rear seat cover for the car, and when we travel we put the Volvo 12V cooler and suitcases on the back seat. The trunk will hold our small cases that we take, so don't really see much of a problem--unless the wife decides to SHOP!!
